Tito and Yugoslavia.

It’s a long time since I visited way back in the early 70s. Marshal Tito was President. I travelled to nearly all regions except Kosovo and Macedonia. Now the old Yugoslavia is made up of many new countries. ie. Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Macedonia, Montenegro and Kosovo.

Brief history: Yugoslavia a country in Southeast Europe during most of the Twentieth century.  It came into existence after the Great War which ended in 1918, under the name of the-kingdom of Serbia Croats and Slovenes by merger. In 1929 it was renamed the Kingdom of Yugoslavia.

A monarchy up until the second world war; then the country was invaded in 1941 by German, Hungarian, and Italian troops. The country was partitioned between client states. Guerrilla action was fought against the invaders including Tito Partisans; puppet states were also set up including  Croatian Fascist State, and the Serbian Government of National Salvation. Simultaneously a multi – sided civil war was waged between the Yugoslavian Tito communist partisans, and Serbian Royal Chetniks, Croatian fascists, as well as  Slovene Home Guard troops. Partisans eventually gained control of Yugoslavia with recognition from the Western allies with air support, and Russian ground troops in an offensive on the capital Belgrade.Yugoslavia came back into existence. After the defeat of Germany in 1945, the King of Yugoslavia was disposed and the country was renamed Federal Peoples Republic of Yugoslavia. In 1946 another name change really confusing for me! Partisan leader Josip Broz Tito became president and a communist government was established. Renamed Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.

In 1948 there was a Tito and Stalin split, and Tito by now must be suffering from political schizophrenia having been expelled from the Communist Information Bureau, there was poor relations with the (USSR) Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, and the love affair came to an end in 1955, because of Tito’s disloyalty to the Soviet Union!!! in reality  “Tito wanted to absorb Albania and Greece, in cooperation with Bulgaria, there by starting up a powerful Eastern European bloc outside of Moscow sphere.” This went down well in the Western world I might add!.

So Marshal Tito had to introduce his own version of Socialism, Tito called it “Socialism in one Country.” Tito was clever, he was able to manoeuvre between Eastern Bureaucracy and Western Imperialism, and obtained much Western capital in the process. He ruled Yugoslavia for more than thirty years and kept the country together, his policy of non-alignment during the cold war, was also one of his achievements. Many people thought president Tito was Serbian however he was mixed Croatian and Slovenian decent.

The Yugoslavian Federation fell apart in 1992, in fact ceased to exist. Western interference stirring up racial hatred along ethnic lines caused the break up of this country. The West wanted to break this communist state and the social services that Tito set up, so Western imperialism could take over the industries and dismantle the whole state structure which they did, closing down factories and making thousands unemployed!!! Civil war, racial hatred, genocide, and rape on a massive scale entailed Yugoslavia died and split. And the above named countries came into being. Me.

PS

Russia does not recognize Kosovo.
